Welcome to Charlotte, North Carolina, Experimental Aircraft Association's EAA Chapter 309 Weblog Site!

EAA Chapter 309 was founded in 1973 and is the local Charlotte chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association which is headquartered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with 1,000 chapters and over 170,000 members in 106 countries who have a common passion for flying.

What is EAA? I for many years in the past I had the question but found that this description on the EAA site is just the beginning of the answer. EAA's primary goal is to promote recreational aviation and facilitate the flying, building, and restoring of recreational aircraft within the community of aviation enthusiasts that are passionately engaged in appreciating and enjoying aviation. The EAA represents virtually the entire spectrum of General and Recreational aviation and is best known for AirVenture, or just "Oshkosh", the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration, known all over the world as the showcase for every imaginable flying machine created by man, the birthplace and marketplace for every possible aviation related item and new aviation technology.

The local Charlotte Chapter EAA 309 is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable and educational organization with approximately 100 members who have 51 aircraft flying, divided equally between Certified and Experimental home built aircraft. Currently 32 of our members also have home build projects in progress. Our members are aviation enthusiasts of every age group, including many airline and commercial pilots, engineers, business people and retired military pilots. We have several members that are certified EAA Technical Counselors and Flight Advisors to help you with your homebuilt project.

Our chapter extends a warm welcome to anyone in the Charlotte and surrounding area who is interested in aviation. We are dedicated to promoting Recreational Aviation interest and Sport Aviation through our support of the Young Eagles Program, Flying Start, and the teaching of building techniques used in the construction of experimental aircraft.

Throughout the year, we have regular monthly meetings, seminars, training sessions, Builder's Work Shops, and fly-ins at Charlotte regional airports. We also sponsor local events for the EAA AirVenture Museum such as the B-17 and the Ford Tri-Motor, featured on our Photo Albums, to foster public interest in Aviation History.
